Arlene John, a native of Liberty City, Miami, has always been driven by her deep family roots in Historic Overtown. Breaking barriers, she became the first of her grandmother’s grandchildren to graduate high school, all while navigating the challenges of teenage motherhood. Familiar with adversity, Arlene has witnessed the impact of incarceration firsthand, with numerous male relatives facing time behind bars. Despite enduring profound losses, including her maternal grandmother, father, brother, and business partner in rapid succession, Arlene has remained resilient. Her commitment to making a difference led her to establish Pearls House Miami Inc., formerly Pearls Academy, dedicated to empowering young men aged 12 to 22, offering them hope, guidance, and opportunities for a brighter future.
